I have a family!
I’m living with my host family now, and tonight will be my 4th night there. It’s only been 4 days but I already feel really comfortable. I live with 5 other people, my mom, dad, sister (19 years), brother (8 years), and uncle (in his late 20s or early 30s I think?). My mom and dad are really nice and have been really good to me. My sister is super sassy which I love and I’ve probably talked to her the most out of everyone. My brother is super adorable and has a ton of energy and and a little bit crazy but he LOVES frisbee (thank god I can play here) and we played together today which was super fun. My uncle is pretty cool and we talked forever about music my first night. Their (our!) family dynamic is hilarious. My sister makes fun of my mom for loving wine and is constantly rolling her eyes at all the silly shit my brother does.
It’s kind of disconcerting not really knowing what’s going on all the time (i.e. a lot of the time) in my house. I’m usually ok if someone is talking to me, cause people speak slower and use simpler words. But as of now when members of my family speak to each other I can only follow it like 4/5 of the time hahaha. There’ve definitely been a few times where we just couldn’t get our points across to one another. They also laugh at my spanish a lot, which is fine with me cause I realize that I have the language skills of a six year old. It’s still frustrating sometimes when I want to express myself SO BADLY and I just can’t…….not knowing the language of the country you’re in kinda sucks. Hopefully in a couple weeks I’ll be way better!
